Project Description

Unfortunately, the owners of a getaway home on Adams Lake in northern Indiana recently discovered that a water leak had caused extensive interior damage. Although efforts were made to restore the home to an acceptable condition, it was ultimately determined that the most practical solution was to demolish the existing structure and construct a new residence.

As is often the case, the owners were referred to us by friends for whom we completed a lake cottage last year. Working within the strict ordinances and restrictions of LaGrange County, Lynn developed a plan that satisfied those requirements while delivering the cottage the owners envisioned.

When completed, the home will include 2,463 square feet across the upper two floors, in addition to 1,012 square feet of finished living space in the lower level. The main floor will feature a great room, nook, kitchen, laundry room, and the owner’s bedroom and bath. The upper level will include three additional bedrooms sized to accommodate queen beds, as well as a bunk room overlooking Adams Lake. Although this level will contain only one bathroom, it has been thoughtfully designed to allow three individuals to use the space simultaneously while maintaining privacy.

The lower level will include a spacious recreation room with a wet bar, a flexible-use room, and an additional full bathroom. A large unfinished storage area will also provide valuable space for seasonal items and other belongings.

The home will be heated by two 2-stage gas furnaces and cooled by 16 SEER air conditioning units, allowing the upper floor to be conditioned independently from the rest of the residence. The cabinetry will be custom built by an Amish craftsman, and the doors and millwork will be finished by skilled painters. Flooring will consist primarily of luxury vinyl plank, with carpeting in the bedrooms.

The exterior will be finished with low-maintenance vinyl siding, and the roof will feature 30-year shingles. A large deck overlooking the lake will be constructed with composite decking and aluminum railing, providing both durability and minimal upkeep.
