Project Description

The property owners, located on the sloping banks of Snow Lake in northern Indiana, initiated contact to discuss the demolition of their current seasonal residence and the construction of a permanent, year-round home. The residence, designed by local architect Mike Christoffersen, was created to accommodate the unique challenges presented by the site. The final product is a traditional two-story home with a walk-out basement. The property’s slope allowed for the creation of a 576 sq ft storage and storm cellar beneath the garage, easily accessed via double doors that face the lake.

The residence will provide 2,083 sq. ft. of living space on the main and upper floors, in addition to 671 sq. ft. of finished area in the lower walk-out level. The structure will include four bedrooms and three and one-half bathrooms, as well as a two-car garage. Two 85 sq. ft. balconies on the upper levels will offer views of Snow Lake. The great room on the main level and the family room in the lower level will both be equipped with direct-vent gas fireplaces. The laundry facilities will be conveniently situated on the upper level with the bedrooms, and a hook-up for a washer/dryer will be available in the lower level.

The exterior will feature low-maintenance vinyl siding and manufactured stone. The residence will be conditioned with two furnace and a/c units, enabling independent comfort control on each floor. A gas tankless heater will provide hot water. Luxury vinyl plank will cover the main areas, while carpet will be installed in the bedrooms. Painted maple custom cabinetry will be topped with quartz counters in the kitchen and lower-level kitchenette, and Corian will be used for the bath and laundry room countertops.
