Project Description

Demolition of the existing older ranch home made way for this cool new home built on a gorgeous lot at Sowless Bay on Lake James. The owners originally contacted Lynn about the prospect of renovating and expanding the existing cottage. Plans and pricing for the project were finalized but the owners revealed that they were curious how a demolition and new build would compare to the remodel/expansion. It was determined that the demo/new build made more sense for them. Interestingly, the new home Lynn designed, as instructed by the owners, is very similar to the layout that was proposed for the remodel and addition. In fact, a large stone wall facing the road on the existing home caught the fancy of the owners and Lynn. Consequently, the stone wall has been recreated on the new home and is positioned in the exact location that the original wall was located.

The new home boasts 4,181 sq. ft. of living area on two floors with another 2,896 sq. ft. of finished area in the walk-out basement. There are four bedrooms and four full baths and a powder room. The home has an attached 3-car garage as well as a separate one-car garage. There isĀ  a large lake-toy storage area accessed by an overhead door facing the lake as well.

A library, bonus room, exercise room and theatre are all part of this marvelous mid century modern design. A large covered deck with gas fireplace is accessed from the lower level by a spiral stairs that was saved from the existing home. The composite deck is partially covered and is set up for future retractable screens to be installed if desired.
