Project Description

Formerly describing a building primarily comprised of a garage with an apartment-style living area, the term “Barndominium” now frequently denotes a particular style, rather than the utilization of space within the structure. This recently completed home in northern Ft. Wayne exemplifies the stylistic definition over the spatial application. Rather than the primary function of the space being a garage, a significant portion has been allocated to entertainment, fulfilling the owners’ aspirations.

Guided by the owners’ vision, Lynn has designed a home that embodies their preferences. The living area of the building features four bedrooms, each with a full bath. A spacious central great room, characterized by a high beamed ceiling and clerestory windows, creates a unique and impressive environment. One end of this space features a large, floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, while the other houses the kitchen with a stone range hood chase that extends to the ceiling.

The home offers ample entertainment options both indoors and outdoors. The 1,740 square-foot Gathering Room includes a secondary kitchen, buffet counter, wet bar, fireplace, and a convenient powder room. The 2,180 sq. ft. garage is designed to accommodate both a pickleball court and a half-court basketball area. The exterior boasts an expansive covered porch and an ample uncovered patio with a firepit.

The home is equipped with radiant hot water floor heating and heat pumps for air conditioning. The domestic hot water is provided by the boilers that supply the floor heat, resulting in efficient equipment operation. The exterior of the home is clad with low-maintenance fiber-cement siding and manufactured stone. We, along with the owners, are delighted with the completion of this impressive “Barndominum”!
