Having outgrown their home, this family decided that the best solution to their lack of living space was to have a new home built. As a farming family, the owners determined that the best location for the new home was right there on the family homestead that has been in the family for many years. The new home is situated in a manner that compliments this gourgeous farmstead. Along with the owners, Lynn designed this home to accomodate the specific needs that are typical for a large family. From the super-sized mud room and laundy room, to the large kitchen with walk-in pantry, a great deal of attention was given to functionality in the design of this 5 bedroom home. A dedicated school room and separate library allows the children space to be properly home-schooled. Provisions have been made for a sun room and bonus room in the attic to [...]
This 2,024 sq. ft. Craftsman style single story home offers 3-bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths as well as a sun room overlooking a pretty pond. The garage is designed in such a way that a portion may be used as a wood shop or more conventionally as a car park. With beefed up framing and a light-weight freight elevator in the attic over the garage, there will be no shortage of storage space in this home. The open space in the great room, kitchen and nook divides the master bedroom from the two bedrooms on the other end of the home for exceptional privacy.
Originally, the intention of the owner of the home situated on this site was to expand and update the structure. Having been in the family for many years, the existing cottage had grown tired and was in need of some improvements but was no less loved. After much consideration of the cost and design benefits of a new home compared to the proposed remodel and expansion, it became apparent that, all things considered, the best option was to reluctantly allow the original home to be demolished and a new home to be built in its place. Working closely with Lynn, the owners requested a design for the new vacation home that was similar to the existing home in many ways. This new cottage includes a walk-out basement and den/4th bedroom, which are additional spaces that were not available in the original home. The home has been designed for universal access [...]
Located on a closed equestrian training and boarding facility near Roanoke, this home, like the rest of the property has been given new life by the owners. Having built a home and cottage for these loyal customers, they requested our help once again to refresh this home so it could be occupied by the manager of the facility. The building was solid for the most part but certainly had areas that needed attention functionally as well as aesthetically. Among the work that was completed were projects such as adding a roof over the main entry, re-roofing the entire home and adding some stone wainscoting and other exterior embellishments. The interior was updated with brand new custom kitchen cabinets and granite tops, refurbishing some existing hardwood floors that were covered with carpeting and repainting the entire home. Hand railing was added to the interior stairway to improve safety as well as [...]
With the unique challenges that seem to be commonplace for lakeside building sites this lake home now recently completed on Lake James was designed by Lynn to take advantage of what this site had to offer. The two-story Contemporary Mediterranean provides 3,880 sq. ft. of living area with a two-car / one-boat garage. Accommodating a large amount of guests at the same time was an important consideration and is provided for with the 4 bedrooms in addition to the large bunk room and 3 1/2 baths. The oversized kitchen, dining room and great room provide more than enough space to make entertaining a breeze. A strategically place sun room allows for a nice little lake side get-away.
