With the existing structure demolished, construction could proceed on this new lake residence on the 3rd basin of Crooked Lake near Angola, Indiana. The owners presented Lynn with some detailed sketches of the floor plan that they preferred and with some tweaking the design of the home was completed.
Per the owner’s wishes, the home is designed to use as much of the depth of the lot as possible without needing a variance from the setback ordinances. The extra width of the property allowed for a home designed to take advantage of the wonderful views of the lake from practically every room in the home. Undeveloped areas on the far shoreline can be enjoyed from the open kitchen, nook and great room areas. The owner’s suite in this one-story home is on the main floor with views of the lake from there as well as two bedrooms on the lower-level walk-out.
The 3-seasons porch with a wood burning fireplace was a must and a large composite deck allows for outdoor entertaining and relaxation. Although the slope of this particular site allowed for the elevated deck and walk-out features, it did present some challenges in the construction of the attached two-car garage.
Using a solution we’ve used a number of the times in the past, the garage floor was constructed with precast concrete panels which created an expansive lake toy storage area directly below. This room, totally enclosed in concrete, provides a safe place to go for protection against severe weather.
The very popular choice of using low maintenance exterior materials was employed on this home which will allow for more R&R and less work.
